The Hindu Vocab – Set – 11
📘 Short Story (English)
From the get-go, the speaker tried to cozen the audience with a confident smile, but his ideas sounded hackneyed rather than inimitable. Some people opined that he was slowly trying to encroach upon others’ credit. A disputatious voice rose from the crowd, carrying a presage of trouble, though many dismissed it as a mere canard.
The event was meant to be recreational, yet the host’s dour expression filled everyone with trepidation. When security tried to occlude the entrance, a scurrilous remark sparked discord. What followed was a brief scrimmage, breaking the earlier insouciance of the crowd.
An attempt to abash the protestors failed, and even a supposed virtuoso could not restore order. The once staid gathering ended in chaos.
(Hindi)
